Gobion Rowlands from our team is one of the judges on the ‘Ur Idea, Ur World 2009’ competition for the University of the Creative Arts. We are excited to be supporting up and coming new talent working on an eco-friendly theme! Here is the press release for the event: PRESS RELEASE September 23rd 2009 2009 Eco-Idea Competition Launched To Find Top Creative Skills In South East The Creative Innovation Award presents ‘Ur Idea, Ur World 2009’; a competition which is now open to all students from the University for the Creative Arts at Canterbury, Epsom, Farnham, Maidstone and Rochester. UCA is one of Europe’s largest specialist Universities of art, design, architecture, media and communication. This year the competition has taken on an eco-friendly theme, challenging the students to see how their creativity and innovation can lead to ideas that can make our world a better place. Mentoring and workshops by industry experts will be offered to all students from each of the five campuses to help them take their ideas through to the final ‘Dragons Den’ style presentation. In its fifth year, the competition not only offers a £1,000 cash prize and Apple’s 13” MacBook Pro for the winner, there are also iPod nanos for each finalist and an opportunity to be selected for valuable work placements with Kanoti, a digital production agency, Red Redemption, an independent games developer of the Climate Challenge series, HSAG, a graphic design consultancy and several others to be confirmed. It also will increase participating students employability, stand out on their CVs and give them an insight in how to take a seed of an idea and make it work. Last years ‘Ur Idea’ winner Andrew Duffy said, “I entered the competition for the experience more than anything else but it also allowed me to develop my ideas in a different environment, so winning the competition was a big shock. The support I received was very useful and I would recommend the competition just for that alone”. Uwe Derksen, Assistant Director of Research and Enterprise at University of Creative Arts said, “Students that have participated in this competition have found it a valuable experience and an important further stepping stone into the world of work and enterprise. The Creative Innovation Award is continuously developing and testing the students innovation and enterprise skills with the support from industry. This year UCA students have a fantastic opportunity to develop their innovative ideas for a better world and present them to representatives from industry and education”. Launch events will take place in each campus with inspirational guest speakers and a workshop to help the students brainstorm, network and generate ideas. This years ‘Ur Idea, Ur World’ is supported by Apple, Surrey Economic Partners, Business Link, Forum For The Future, Kanoti, Red Redemption and University for Creative Arts. With additional personal commitment from many industry experts across all creative disciplines including ethical fashion label, Keep The Ferret; sustainable furniture designer, Ryan Frank; eco architects Tim Oldman Consulting and Eco Interiors; Climate Works; Vertex Training; Centre For Sustainable Design and Ogilvy. |
